Decoupage Pen Holder Craft For Kids
If you are into crafts, it is likely that you must have heard about Decoupage. Decoupage paper crafts, have kind of gone viral in the recent few months. Well, what is this Decoupage all about?
Decoupage is the art of decorating an object by gluing paper. Colored paper cut outs are glued onto objects and then coated with Decoupage glue. After 10-15 coats you see the "stuck on" appearance disappear and the result looks like painting or inlay work. Sounds, easy and cool!
So, I decided to give decoupage art a try. I made a pen holder with the decoupage technique. Make this craft with your child. One rainy afternoon instead of playing with LEGO blocks, get your child crafting!
Here is how I did that:
It is likely that you will be having an old cardboard or wooden pen holder at home. Revamp your old pen holder with the decoupage technique.
What you'll need:
1) Cardboard/wooden pen holder
2) Decoupage glue
3) Acrylic paint
5) Scrap paper
First, start by painting the pen holder. You can select any color of your choice. I used a blue acrylic paint for my pen holder.
Cut out designs from scrap paper. I cut 4 different colors for each side.
Once the paper cut outs are ready, use decoupage glue to glue them on the pen holder. Glue 1 cut-out on each side. Wait for a few minutes till the cut outs are stuck firmly. Remove any excess glue and press firmly to avoid bubbles.
Next, cover the entire pen holder with decoupage glue. Let dry. Repeat. Give 8 -10 coats.
Once done, you will see the magic. You no longer can feel the edges of paper that you stuck. The finished product almost looks like a top class painting done by you.
Decoupage craft is really easy and simple. The best part of decoupage art is that you will find all the materials at your home. You can redesign almost any object with this technique. Give a personalized touch to your objects and be seen as a unique gifter. So, get crafting!
